After years of such complaints from parents, the Competition Tribunal was also doing their very own investigation into this matter.
This agreement purely asks schools to reduce the number of unique items within their school uniform range.
The Tribunal has expressed how this decision is exciting for them.
The Commission Tribunal Principal analyst, Karabo Motaung had the following to say:
We are looking at this decision being very big for consumers, for their pockets, and for their ability to make choices which is important.
Recently, a consent agreement was reached between the Competition Tribunal and uniform supplier McCullagh and Bothwell, ending an exclusivity supply agreement deal.
This agreement terminates all exclusive supply agreements on the procurement of school uniforms.
Thus, parents will now have more options when it comes to retailers they can go to, to purchase their children’s uniforms.
The agreement will increase competition amongst retailers and ensure cheaper prices for the parents.
The Tribunal has also emphasized how this helps the consumer to exercise their right to procure their goods and services from what sort of grading system will then be used.
