2022 Applications for the DA Has Demanded For Rotational Learning To Be Scrapped? StatusApplications are Open 2022
Civic organisations and political parties have clearly articulated where they stand in terms of rotational learning in classes. This comes after the Education Department had released a statement that rotational learning will continue indefinitely.
The Democratic Alliance is amongst many that want the government to do away with rotational learning and the 1 metre social distancing policy.
DA leader John Steenhuisen confirmed that the political party has already instructed the legal team to draft papers to approach the High Court on an urgent basis to compel the government to make the necessary changes to make sure that classes return to full capacity.
Steenhuisen mentioned that this form of learning affects mostly those in poor communities.
DA leader said:
We believe it’s discriminatory as well as entrenching inequality in South Africa because these learners are suffering at the hands of a policy that is no longer required to beat the Covid-19 pandemic and which has long since been abandoned by many other countries as they’ve returned their schools to normal capacity.

Steenhuisen expressed how learners missing out on 50% of their learning in the past two years has resulted in 62% – 81% of learners in grade four having a reading loss.
The Gugulethu Development Forum (GDF) recently shared the same sentiments when it comes to rotational learning.
Western Cape Education Minister Debbie Schäfer said she will continue to engage with the national government regarding a return to daily attendance for all learners as soon as possible.
“The government has enough money to build extra classes perhaps prefab classes like back in the day. That way the schools can have smaller classes, learners will also attend school normally. Why can’t the money be used wisely instead of disrupting learning by rotating the learners,” said Shay Gounden.
