During a media briefing held on Wednesday, Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga stated that the Department has decided to keep the existing rotational timetable going into the 2022 academic year.

She said the decision is due to the devastating impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the basic education sector over the past two years.

Motshekga also explained that despite these circumstances, the department and its stakeholders have put strategies in place to keep the sector functioning efficiently throughout the year.

Working together with our stakeholders, we have been able to return all learners back to school at primary level.

In addition this the minister also stated that on 30 December 2022, the Department issued directives to amend regulations in terms of the disaster management act.

This was done in order to address the matter relating to gatherings and amendments that have also affected directions in schools. The amendment required is around permitting spectators access to sports venues.

The amendment, according to the minister, would enable parents to attend their children’s sporting events at school. This also serves to ensure parents remain a part of their children’s development.
