2023/2024 Applications for the Education Department Presents ‘Staggered’ Calender for 2023/2024 Applications are Open 2023/2024
The Department of Basic Education announced that schools will follow a “staggered” calendar when reopening in the 2023/2024 academic year.
This academic year will commence as of start next week, with learners in the inland provinces of Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and North West going back to school on Wednesday, the 12th of January and those in coastal provinces of Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape, and Western Cape reopening on 9 January.

This is to give learners some time to travel to their home provinces.
The 2023/2024 reopening of schools had been postponed to February due to Covid-19 recovery cases.
Basic Education Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the Education Department had already compiled and presented the state of readiness reports last year already. Thus, it’s all systems go for the 2023/2024 school year.
