2022 Applications for the Matric Results Will Be Published On Public Platforms? StatusApplications are Open 2022
The Basic Education Department has been ordered to publish the matric results on all public platforms. This comes after lobby group AfriForum lodged an urgent court application against Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga and her department on Monday in a bid to have them publish the matric results on public platforms.
In handing down the judgement, Judge Anthony Miller stated that it was in the public interest for the matric results to be published on public platforms.
He added that not all learners have online resources to access their online resources the moment that they are made available.
AfriForum welcomed the judgement with Advocate Natasha Venter stating that the Department’s decision to rely on the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) was not rational.
We are satisfied that the court agreed with us in this case because only the examination numbers of the pupils are published in the papers on media platforms, therefore, no personal information is made public.
She further stated that it is in the interest of learners, that they should be able to access their results as soon as possible and that they should be able to celebrate with whomever they choose to share the examination number.
Although the Department had made the decision on 10 January, the Department’s spokesperson recently release a statement on Tuesday saying that it would abide by the court’s decision, following the hearing.
The Department will abide by the ruling. This means that Department will make available the results to stakeholders who requested access.
The matric results for 2022 are due to be announced on Thursday 20 January and officially released on Friday 21 January 2022.
