2022 Applications for the Over 270 000 Learners Have Been Placed In Gauteng Schools Applications are Open 2022
The Department of Basic Education in Gauteng has placed more than 276 000 Grade 1 and 8 online admission applicants in schools. However, nearly 1 500 applicants are yet to be placed.
The provincial education department has also stated that it will be investing in more classrooms. The Department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona says that the issue of the unplaced learners is concerning but the department has plans in place to accommodate.
He adds that the Department is currently experiencing a shortage of classrooms in three districts and has invested in building more classrooms
“We have decided to invest in building more classrooms we have schools that have confirmed that they will be a position to build so we are transferring over 240 million to those identified schools where over 200 classes are going to be built in both primary in high school level”
In the meantime, learners from these identified schools will be using mobile classes while building takes place. Mabona further states that the department has been inundated with appeal applications.
He says the reason for this is that some learners have either been placed in schools they did not apply for or prefer. He adds that this is due to the lack of capacity in certain districts and that there has been a high concentration of applications.
The department has advised parents to take the spaces that they have been allocated because it is of utmost importance that children resume attending school.
There are also more than 17 000 applications that have not been processed because parents failed to submit some of the required supporting documents. The department will again reopen its online system on Wednesday 12 January 2022 for parents to upload these documents.
