It is important to know exactly what your NSFAS application status means. These are the following things that you may see on your application status.
Application submitted
Your application has successfully been uploaded to the NSFAS system.
Filtering
The NSFAS system verifies whether you are a returning student and if you have any previous qualifications.
Validation
NSFAS conducts third-party verifications with the Department of Home Affairs and Sassa.
Evaluation
All the documents submitted with your application are verified by NSFAS.
Funding Eligibility
Your combined household income is verified by NSFAS, to ensure that it matches what you declared in your application.
Awaiting Academic Results/Admission
Your academic results and tertiary institution admission status is checked to ensure that you meet the bursary criteria.
You may stay at this stage for a while because NSFAS has to wait for information from your chosen tertiary institution.
Awaiting Registration
NSFAS is receiving data from your chosen institution to enable them to create a bursary agreement.
You may find your application on this step for a while.
Signing of Agreement
Here you will be required to sign your bursary agreement so that NSFAS can disburse your allowances. Your allowances will depend on the type of institution you are studying at.
Payments
At this stage, your allowances will be paid through the NSFAS Wallet system or via your institution.
Students are encouraged to monitor their myNSFAS portal for updates.
