NSFAS Offices To Reopen In Early January In South Africa 2023/2024

After opting to not payout allowances for the month of November in 2023/2024, NSFAS offices had their efforts focused solely on receiving applications for the academic year of 2023/2024. These applications are said to close on the 7th of January 2023/2024.

After over a month of receiving applications, in December of 2023/2024 the NSFAS social media page announced that NSFAS offices would be closed for the holidays starting on the 15th of December 2023/2024. In the statement, it was also announced that NSFAS offices would reopen on the 4th of January 2023/2024.

Since offices have been closed whilst applications are still being submitted, students have been left without much aid with regards to their applications for funding. Students’ frustrations with the lack of guidance from NSFAS have been made visible in the comments section underneath the social media release post made by NSFAS.

Just as it has been at the end of each academic year for some time now, students in 2023/2024 have also complained about an inability to track the progress of their applications during the festive season. Under the NSFAS post, a number of students complained about seeing the same error message when attempting to track or submit their NSFAS applications via the website.

Those who have been lucky enough to be able to access their application progress have now also complained about their applications not having seen any movement for a while, whilst others have mentioned that they have some allowance payouts still outstanding for the year of 2023/2024.

With offices reopening right after the New Year, students are hopeful that they might be able to receive some answers soon.
